Mishleen has officially completed her Master's degree in Art Therapy, marking a significant milestone in her academic and professional journey. As the first student to graduate from the Art Therapy program at Dar al-Kalima University, Mishleen has not only embraced her studies but has actively contributed to the field through her research and practical projects.
One of the highlights of her journey was presenting her thesis at the 2nd International Conference on Virtual Reality in Mental Health – Into the Real, held in Sweden. Her research focused on the impact of immersive 3D virtual reality environments, paired with background music, on reducing anxiety symptoms among university students. This innovative project beautifully integrates her dual passions for design and therapy, demonstrating the potential of art as a healing tool.
Mishleen expressed profound gratitude to everyone who has supported her along the way. "I am deeply grateful to my family, friends, colleagues, students, and Dar al-Kalima University for their constant encouragement and belief in me," she shared. She extends a special thanks to her supervisor, Dr. Nawras Kurzom, whose invaluable mentorship played a crucial role in shaping her research and accomplishments.
At Dar al-Kalima University, Mishleen teaches in the design faculty, where she focuses on 3D design and character development in her students. While balancing her roles as both a student and educator, she found excitement in the intersection of her academic pursuits and her commitment to fostering creativity among students.
As she prepared for graduation, Mishleen reflected on her experiences in the art therapy program. "My thesis project addresses the effect of immersive 3D environments and background music on anxiety symptoms for students at Dar al-Kalima University," she explained. Participants engaged in a series of breathing exercises and virtual reality sessions over two days, providing fascinating insights into the therapeutic potential of combining visuals and music.
Mishleen envisions her future in art therapy, focusing on helping her students navigate the challenges they face during their university journey. "I want to support them in overcoming anxiety and enhancing their overall well-being, especially in light of the difficult circumstances many students face in the region," she states.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza profoundly affects the psychological well-being of students in the West Bank as well. Mishleen emphasizes the long-term impacts of trauma that can permeate generations, highlighting the importance of healing and providing a supportive environment for students to express themselves creatively.
She believes that Dar al-Kalima University plays a vital role in this healing process, as it empowers students to express their identities and creativity without boundaries. "The university gives students the freedom to explore their character and personality through their work," she says.
As a passionate graduate and dedicated professor at Dar al-Kalima University, Mishleen is excited about the future of the art therapy program and the positive impact it can have on the community. "This is an important part of nurturing each student's character and helping them navigate their lives and styles," she adds.
With her commitment to art, education, and healing, Mishleen is poised to make a significant contribution to the field of art therapy, creating pathways for students to express themselves and find solace amid the challenges they face.
