The International Center of Bethlehem (ICB) will hold its next international conference, “Invention of History: A Century of Interplay between Theology and Politics in Palestine”, in Bethlehem, from August 23-29, 2009. The ICB hopes to welcome around 50 theologians, historians, sociologists, archaeologists and filmmakers from all over the world to speak and present their work at the conference. This 5-day conference (3 days in sessions and 2 days of on-the-ground orientation and site visits) shifts the focus from understanding the Bible text itself to examining how theology has been developing in relation to politics of the Middle East in general, and of the historic land of Palestine in particular, during the last 100 years. Registration is open to the public, and details on how and when to register, as well as registration fees and a prospective conference schedule, will be available in the new year. Over 200 delegates attended the ICB’s 2007 Intercultural Conference on “God’s Reign and People’s Rule”.
