Outdoor Landscaping Creates Areas for Recreation |

The shell of the buildings are now complete, a contractor has been selected for the finishing/interior work, and now the labor of getting the site cleaned of all materials in preparation for the finishing work is underway. The General Contractor and his crew are making careful inspections of all areas that may need attention before they begin to bring in the finishing materials. Many of the small windows will be filled with specially designed glass made in the workshops at Dar Annadwa. Other special accents incorporating training in the fine arts will also be incorporated into the finishing of the structures.
In addition to the buildings, the outdoor areas have been completed are awaiting landscaping. Several seating areas where students and faculty can congregate will provide respite and community-building. Several fountains and water features have been designed to recycle the water used in these areas so as to be environmentally aware of the scarcity of water and the need to conserve while still providing the audio-sensual cooling effects that are the purpose of these outdoor water features. Artistically designed walkways and colorful concrete water-surrounds add to the esthetics. In order to enhance the outdoor seating areas, much work will be needed to clear the bedding areas and plant them with trees, flowering shrubs, and other landscaping. It is an opportunity for volunteers who wish to come and get their hands dirty. The clearing and planting need to be completed before the rainy season so timing is critical here. If you are interested to come as an individual or with a volunteer team to help with this project, please contact Beth Nelson Chase.
